    TMS Clinical Study Results

Proven Efficacy Across 30+ Randomized Controlled Trials & 40+ Clinical Sites

FDA-cleared since 2008, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is backed by robust data demonstrating remarkable response and remission rates for patients with treatment-resistant depression.

Extensive Scientific Evidence for Prefrontal Stimulation

TMS Therapy was cleared by the FDA in 2008 following a decade of clinical trials. The administration of TMS is highly standardized, precise, and well-regulated.

The evidence supporting prefrontal cortical stimulation spans over 30 randomized, controlled trials involving thousands of patients worldwide. Below are three representative clinical studies totaling 462 patients treated across 40+ clinical centers nationwide.

    3 Key Clinical Studies

Real-world clinical data from academic medical centers and private psychiatric practices.

Study 1: Dunner et al. (2014)

    Multisite Observational Study Across 42 Private & Academic Clinics (n = 257)

    Response: 67.7%
    Remission: 45.1%

In a naturalistic clinical trial of 257 patients who had failed prior antidepressant medications, TMS Therapy delivered durable effectiveness over 1 year following acute treatment. At 12 months post-acute care, response rates reached 67.7% and remission reached 45.1% with occasional reintroduction treatments.

Study 1: Dunner et al. (2014)

Study 2: Vaché et al. (2013)

Austin TMS Clinic Retrospective Evaluation (n = 82)

    Response: 67.1%
    Remission: 46.3%

In this study, 82 patients with severe treatment-resistant depression (50% with prior psychiatric hospitalizations) were evaluated using the IDS-SR30 scale. Average symptom scores dropped from 42.8 down to 20.1, with 67.1% responding and 46.3% entering full clinical remission.

Study 2: Vaché et al. (2013)

Study 3: Cress et al. (2015)

TMS Serenity Center Clinical Trial (n = 123)

    Response: 76.4%
    Remission: 72.4%

In 123 patients with unipolar major depressive disorder, baseline Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) scores dropped from 25.6 (moderate depression) down to 10.2 (remission). Over 72.4% reached full remission, with 80%+ of evaluated patients maintaining remission over 4 years.

Study 3: Cress et al. (2015)

    Ongoing Research & Additional Indications

TMS Therapy has undergone, or is currently undergoing, hundreds of additional clinical trials for psychiatric and neurological conditions including: PTSD, OCD, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Chronic Pain, Fibromyalgia, Smoking Cessation, and Mild Cognitive Impairment.

Leading medical research institutions—including Columbia, Duke, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, Stanford, UCLA, University of Pennsylvania, and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center—continue to expand clinical protocols for targeted neuromodulation.
